Got mould. Now what? 🤨

Haven’t said much since the accident post. tl;dr; I was living & working at a mountain restaurant in Jotunheimen.
Now I’m living in an apartment in Tønsberg, and today I noticed there was some mould developing in the van. Norway is dark and cold. The humidity inside the van from living in it in summer, no ventilation, and potentially weekend trips now in winter, lead to this.
Here’s how I fixed it: (edited in June 2021)

I was (casually) riding my bike in hafjell bikepark when I went over the bars and broke my collarbone. Might need a real bed to recover from this one, will update when I know 😭

The surprise is I decided to move-in full time for the Summer. This was completely unplanned. I’m living in Bergen right now but it’s clear that I want to try moving to Oslo. It’s a 7 hour drive through the mountains, but I’m going to give myself about 4 months to drive and explore a lot of places with my mountainbike 😇

I needed a sink because of reasons, so I bought a $14 steel flowerpot from ikea, this one: flowerpot

Made a hole in it, connected it to a jerrycan under this table thing, and done.

A few months ago I didn’t want a solar panel. But now in May the sun actually makes himself apparent, so I changed my mind. Picked this solar panel + solar charge controller for around 1200kr ($120 give or take) and hooked it up! 160watts maximum, so on a sunny day I can power my laptop entirely from solar power.

I’m used to sleeping in a pretty big bed, so I decided to re-do my tiny single bed into a slide-out double bed.

Designed it in google sketch up and then went and built it.

Insulating the bulkhead

I ended up not removing the bulkhead for a few reasons. Couldn’t be bothered for one, and it turns out if I leave it in, I don’t have to get anything approved in the back, as it’s essentially just cargo.

So I covered it up:

Hey folks, given that some of us have valuables in our vehicles and often end up parked in strange/isolated places, it’s likely that sooner or later someone ill-intended will come across our vehicles.
The video I’m about to show you to explains how to install a kill-switch that turns off your fuel pump, which makes your car impossible to start with the key, hot wiring, or even by push starting. It would have to be towed in order to be stolen.

Although I really wanted a double bed, it’s just not possible with the space constraints.
There are a few must-haves for the bed:
200cm long Low enough that I can sit on it comfortably High enough to have basic storage under it Foam mattress I found a good contender at Ikea.
The bed frame costs 399kr(39€) and measures 30x200x94cm with 20cm of space under it. It’s very low, but I don’t yet know if I can prop it up and have enough space to sit, I have to check later.

Insulation

There’s a possibility that with decent isolation I can already spend a few nights in the van before my heater arrives, so today I went to see what I could find.
The initial plan was polystyrene boards, but, for some reason, a 50x80cm board cost over 600kr/60€! I have no idea why that was the case, but rock wool was 235kr/24€ for 6.1 square metres of 50mm thick material. Each side of the van is about 4 square metres, and the top is 3.

Besides van builds I will post some videos and photos I take on my trips, and maybe some sports related updates since the van is built around it.
I already make some videos here and there, but so far I’ve been having to move around on a bike, so now I will be able to cover more distance :) this was done over a year ago:

Starting from 0 & future plans

On the second of January 2020 I got a completely standard Opel Vivaro with no insulation, no nothing, just a typical work van.
I have a few plans that I outline in the following video:
If you don’t feel like watching, here they are in text form:
Must-haves(by order of importance):
1. Insulation 2. Bed(200x90cm) with foam mattress 3. Leisure battery 4. Heating(requires a battery and I don’t want to use the starter battery) Nice-to-haves:
